Hello there everyone. Just doing a quick post to let you know that I haven't forgotten about my little blog but I have honestly been so caught up in panicking and getting ready for university that I haven't had a chance to take pictures or anything.
Though to be honest the majority of my clothes are already packed leaving me with only a few bits and pieces to last me until I go. Cue living in the same T-shirt and shorts.
I travel down to Kent on Saturday and I'll definitely keep up to blogging whilst I'm at university. If anyone knows anywhere in Canterbury where I can snap up cheap bargains then do let me know! I've heard charity shops are quite good there so I'm sure I'll be taking a nosy not long after I arrive.
I'm pretty excited and my only worries are my ID and railcard arriving before I go. I'm traveling down on the train and if I don't have my railcard I'll have to pay full fare for a new ticket. Fingers crossed eh?
So yeah. That's about it, expect a new blog post this time next week from my new room.
I'm currently working my way through a bag of mint Werther's Originals and quite frankly they are delicious! My sweet tooth just cannot be contained. I'm going to be one of those people that just lives off sweets at university. With no teeth. Anyway, my car boot venture at the weekend went pretty well if I do say so myself. I picked up a couple items and will share them with you as soon as they're out of the wash. As much as I love charity shops and car boots the clothes always stink. Always. So a quick spin in the washing machine is a definite must.
Dress: Charity Shop
Cardigan: Internationale (back in the day)
This dress is one I picked up a while ago from a charity shop and posted about in my charity shop treasures post.I must admit I don't know why it took me so long to finally wear it. Its a gorgeous dress (even if it does make my boobs look a tad too big) and is great for both summer and winter. I can see myself getting a lot more wear out of it in the colder months by layering it with wooly tights and thin tees underneath.
Here I paired it with a lemon yellow cropped cardigan that I have had for literally years. It's great for throwing over pretty dresses without ruining the shape of the dress. I love the cropped length as it sits nicely on the waist and looks really flattering.
You may notice that my hair looks different. And by different I mean more curly and just darn right pretty, haha. I got my hair like this in one of the simplest ways possible: a french plait. Literally just got out of the shower and plaited it whilst it was wet then took it out in the morning, ta da! I really like how it looks and don't know why I never thought of doing it before. The plait even made my dreads go curly and it lasted right until the next day without any hairspray at all. Score.
So expect to see curly locks more often.
*Another interesting way to show off my rings*
I've been busy getting things sorted for university today but I feel like I'm a lot more on top of things now. I picked my modules for my English course and then threw in a beginners Arabic course as a wild module. Gonna have three languages under my belt then, hell yeah. I also bought my freshers week pass thingy which I had to use my overdraft to pay for. Can't wait to have all my loans and bursaries. Just going to be rolling in it, haha.
Just going to say a big hello to my new followers, welcome to the ever growing family. I reckon as a way to thank you all I might to a post dedicated to all my fave blogs and what not. What do you think?
Woah, so I just crawled out from under my rock and man haven't I neglected some shit around here? Truth be told I just got a tad too caught up with various things such as my boyfriends and sisters birthday, helping my mum redecorate the hallway and the fact that one of my friends borrowed my camera for a bit. And on top of that my nan still isn't well and it's not looking too good if I'm honest.
Top: Mums
Shorts: Newlook
Bracelet: Present
Anyhow,
I bring to you another outfit post that I retrieved from my archives. I
actually wore something very similar to this on results night. I swapped the shorts for ones that were a tad longer so that it didn't look like I was just wearing a rather sheer top. I also threw on my gorgeous blue detailed waistcoat over the top just to jazz it up a bit. It was results night after all. I even wore pretty earrings.
I've had this top in my wardrobe for a while now but have never known how to style it as its a tad see through (as you can most likely tell. Note to self: wear nude bra next time) and is a bit of an awkward length as it was a hand me down from my mum and is actually a size 16. Though despite all of its flaws I still think its really pretty and hopefully I'll get more wear out of it, perhaps open like a waistcoat?
Me and my boyfriend also celebrated our first year anniversary a couple weeks ago which was sweet if pretty unorganised. I shouldn't have left it for him to plan, haha. We ended up catching a train to Halifax and eating fish and chips in the Piece Hall before the heavens opened and started to chuck it down. We took refuge in the sweet shop where Ross spend an absolute age picking something, he literally was like a kid in a sweet shop. I came away with a butterfinger (slightly disappointing), a coconut lollypop and some sour watermelon and apple thingies. Yum. We made our way back to mine where I was ever so romantic and laid a rug out in the garden, lit some candles and cracked open the Lambrini. I am oh so classy. It was sweet and Ross even saw a shooting star but I missed it unfortunately.
Ross is also coming over today and we plan on stuffing our faces with Chinese and watching Doctor Who. We've been 'treating' ourselves far too much recently with naughty snacks and takeaways though we only have a week or so before we both venture off to university so I suppose we're trying to make the most of the time we have left together. By eating crap.
Although we are going swimming tomorrow so that kind of makes up for it, right? We've also planned on heading to a car boot to have a nosy and see if we can snap up any bargains. I'll be sure to take my camera along and share any finds with you too.
Hope you are all well and thank you to all of you who read/comment and follow. It nice to know people like my blog. And I do check all of your blogs so be sure to leave me a link!
Because my friend in NZ is seeing them in January and I'm not.
Hello everyone, sorry for the short absence. I've been so busy these few days what with getting my results and my mum coming home after a week away to see my nan who is pretty ill at the mo. So this outfit is one I photographed a while back but hadn't got round to posting. Anyway, just want to say thanks to all of you that wished me luck with my results. I am proud to say that I got into my first choice uni (University Of Kent) to study English Literature and Creative Writing and I actually cried when I found out. As for my results I got A* A B B! Not gonna lie I am super chuffed with my A* (in psychology) and it was totally unexpected.
Top: Customised
Skirt: DIY
Belt: Vintage
Fishnets: Primark
Naturally I celebrated in true teenage British style and got just a little drunk with my friends and played on singstar ever so badly. Safe to say I felt like utter shite in the morning but hey, you're only young once.
As for this outfit, it's probably one of the cheapest ones I have ever worn as the only thing I actually bought was the vintage belt which was a measly 2 pounds. You see I'm already living the life of a student. The top was a hand-me-down from a friend of mine which I hadn't worn until I attacked it with the scissors. I reckon I'll get much more wear out of it now.
The skirt was one of my very
first DIY projects and I made it out of an old denim jacket of all
things. I literally cut off the sleeves and collar then tapered it to
fit my shape. It was really easy so head down to your local charity shop
and give it a go.
I apologise for this photo. I didn't realise I was sticking my bum out, but it was the only back shot I had and I wanted to show off my dreads. It also makes my waist look smaller than it is which is a plus.
I've been looking at travel costs for getting down to uni and gosh it's pretty pricy isn't it? Although, the one thing that has really helped is the fact that I'll be getting a free rail card as I'm a Natwest customer which really helps. So if you're reading this and you're going into sixthform or whatever, get an account with Natwest because a free 4 year railcard is a godsend. Just to clarify, no I am not getting paid by Natwest to say that.
On another note, take a look at these babies. Remember years ago say 2005 when being chavy was cool. Well me and my sister clubbed together to get these and we thought they were amazing. After being worn only a few times and years spent in a shoe box I'm bringing them back. Well actually I wore them all winter. But shush. They're making their blogging debut. I am still in two minds as to whether I should dye them or not, what do you think? Whilst you ponder on that here's liberty X:
Because this is was my fave song that was sung on Thursday night.
Hello everyone. I find out my A level results tomorrow morning. Oh my. To say the least, and excuse my french, I am shitting myself.
This time two years ago I was the complete opposite. GCSE's had been a breeze for me. I literally walked through them with very little effort. The long list of As didn't surprise me and was actually expected.
Fast forward to A levels and I am all over the place! I really do not want to have a repeat of March where I found out that my efforts were worth an E in my English Literature exam. After that I really tried so I hope its paid off. Either way I am getting drunk tomorrow evening with my friends and plan on not remembering much.
Dress: Primark
Hat: H&M
Ross made me American style pancakes this morning. The recipe served 4. We ate the whole lot to ourselves and I'm still feeling a tad sickly hours later. Moral of the story. Don't be greedy when it comes to American pancakes.
Keeping the food theme, take a look at my dress. It's covered in oranges! I bought this last year when my mum took me shopping for my birthday but the strap broke not long after so I hadn't worn it much. That is until I stopped being so lazy and finally sewed the accused strap back on. It was warm enough last week to wear this without tights though I reckon I'll still wear it in the winter with some thick tights and boots. Look at me talking about winter already.
Dread update: they're doing pretty good though a fair few of them are really loose so I reckon I'm going to have to redo them and not rush it this time. I washed them with a bicarbonate of soda wash for the first time a couple of days ago which should help them lock up nice and tight. If anyone has any advice on dreads that they would like to nudge in my direction I'd be very grateful. I've also been thinking about layering the loose hair that I've got on top to give my hair more shape, so I might attempt that some time soon. If I'm wearing a paper bag over my head in a few posts time you'll know its because I fucked it up.
*Me trying to show off my rings in a more interesting way*
Right I reckon it's time for me to drink some tea, catch up on blog posts, clean the house and then ring my nan as its her birthday today.
Love you nan!
Because the performance of this at the Olympics Closing ceremony was insane!
Hello, so I've had a few full on days and quite emotional days at that. I blame my hormones. I said goodbye to one of my best friends a couple days ago as she's going to live in New Zealand. I'm really chuffed for her and I know she's going to have an amazing time but I will miss her. On the bright side I have a great place to go on holiday to now.
Playsuit: Primark
Waistcoat: Customised
I ordered some studs of Ebay a fair while ago and they finally arrived last week after waiting for over a month with a cheeky note asking me to rate them full stars! And even then they had only sent me half the amount that I'd paid for. I wasn't impressed to say the least. Annoyances aside I spent a whole evening pushing studs through various items in my wardrobe, this waistcoat being one of them. I really like the way it turned out as its simple enough to not be too in your face but it just lifts the whole item. Job well done, if I do say so myself.
I haven't really got a lot to say today if I'm honest. I've just been feeling a little down in the dumps lately and drinking lots of tea. I've even stopped doing yoga as regularly as I was as I just can't be bothered and feel so blah. Note to self: make more effort.
Anyway, have a picture of my face and a cheery song.
Because my mum is borrowing my Ipod for a 6 hour coach journey and as I'm lovely I put all of her motown CD's onto it.
Hello everyone. I would apologize for my absence but that would be boring and lets face it no one likes a groveler. So lets dive straight in eh?
I've been pretty busy these past few days stripping wall paper, going on a night out without any ID (I am 18 FYI), getting addicted to the Logosquiz app and being utterly glued to my telly thanks to the Olympics. Anyone see the mens 100 meter sprint? Cannot tell you how tense my household was, haha.
Top: Very Old
Shorts: Newlook
Belt: Vintage
Vest: Mothers
I had Ross stay over for a few days which was lovely as he's gone and got himself a full time job starting next week or so, meaning I wont be able to see him much before we both head off to that place called university. Don't get me wrong I'm really looking forward to venturing off into the big wide world I just hope we manage to see each other along the way.
Right. Clothes. Can we take a moment to appreciate how amazing this vest/waistcoat is? This wonderful thing was once my mum's and now has pride of place in my wardrobe. I've had it for a while and used to throw it over everything yet for some unknown reason it's gotten buried underneath my ever expanding clothes collection. So I thought it was high time I gave this guy some attention. It makes me feel a little like a genie.
I paired the vest with a floral top that I've had for literally years, hence the sliver of belly, and I really like the way these two items go together. The vest just makes a rather cute but boring outfit all the more interesting.
I also decided to finally jump on the bring-back-side-ponys band wagon driven by Chloe. I didn't initially think it would work with my dreads but I reckon it turned out pretty good despite having to tuck in a few lumps and bumps, haha.
That's it from me I reckon. Just a big thank you to everyone who reads, comments and follows this little blog of mine, it really makes my day.
Hello people of the internet. I'm currently sat with a mug of hot green tea and watching my cat sleep. Sounds creepy I know but she's so funny when she sleeps. She does this cute little twitch.
I reckon that's not something I should be plastering all over the internet. I can see a future as a crazy cat lady in store for me.
Dress: Pop Boutique
Waistcoat: Primark
Belt: Primark
Anyway, lets
move onto what you actually came here for: clothes. So I wore this
outfit whilst I was just lounging around the house but felt like
actually looking like a human rather than something the cat dragged in
(yet more mentions of cats). This dress was a hand me down from my
sister but was originally from Pop Boutique in Leeds, though there's a
handful across the country and even one in Sweden,
go figure. I wont lie I haven't been in a while, but whenever I have they have
always had some really cool stuff which is pretty affordable. And
believe me coming from a cheapskate I really do mean it's affordable.
I was having a play around
with my hair and began french plaiting two bits at the side which I then
incorporated into a full french plait. I quite like how it turned out
despite some bits sticking out, yet I think they just add to it.
Considering this girly hairstyle I went ahead and teamed the floral
dress with a pretty crochet waistcoat that I got last year from Primark.
I really do love this waistcoat as it's so easy to throw over anything
The majority of my rings are now from Ebay after I had a bit of a 'I need more rings' moment and promptly ordered a gazillion. Well not a gazillion, more like six. However, now that I have all these rings, I tend to stick to wearing the same ones. So in order to combat this I'm making more of a conscious effort to make use of my recent ring collection.
*This is me trying and failing to show you my anklet*
Speaking of Ebay, I'm currently selling a few things on there in case anyone is interested. There's a pair of work trousers that I'm selling for my mum so just ignore those if you so wish. Though there's a pair of floral shorts and a pretty check dressboth currently at 99p so you'll definitely grab a bargain. I'm trying to get a bit of money together so I can get Ross his birthday present (I wont tell you what it is as I want it to be a surprise and I know he reads my blog. Yes I'm talking to you Ross!).
That aside, it's probably worth a look just so you can laugh at my selling banter.
Because it reminds me of all those Jam Nights I went to for Ross.
I was in the process of writing this blog post yesterday when my boyfriend Ross pulled the plug on my laptop and forced me to go on a walk. I wasn't happy to say the least but admittedly I really did enjoy the walk as it was such a lovely evening and there was practically no one about. If you follow me on instagram (safiyamarie) then you can have a looksee at some picture we took.
Dress: H&M
Cardigan:Saved from being chucked out
Moving away from being forced to do exercise here is what I wore to my friends house on Thursday. I took these photos when I got back hence the flash and what not. I don't think they turned out too bad but I do prefer my normal shots.
I bought this dress a couple summers ago and wore it for the first time at a house party. I ended up getting rather drunk and jumping out of a window (it seemed the best idea at the time) and catching the dress on the side of the window resulting in a giant hole. Upon discovering the giant hole I cried. A lot.
I'm proud to say that I've recovered from the traumatic event and have since patched up the hole.
I'm also wearing a cardigan? Waistcoat? Wooly thing without sleeves? Seriously someone one help me out here. Anyway, I retrieved this item from a bag of my dads clothes that my mum was chucking out. I just love throwing it over otherwise 'boring' outfits and is great for the summer if it's a bit nippy but not nippy enough for a cardigan.
Going off track here, but wasn't the Olympic Opening Ceremony awesome? Well apart from the hobbit bit at the beginning of course. What did you guys reckon to it? Personally the best bit was the giant blow up Voldemort, I mean how awesome was that?
Just as a bit of a dread update: they're coming along nicely though some of them are still wrapped in wool and I've banded the roots of some of them as the roots are a tad loose. I guess only time will tell. I've decided to leave my top layer of hair loose as I think it suits my face better and still allows me to do other things with my hair. Perhaps I'll dread the whole of it in the future, we shall see.
Ross did my hair for me yesterday before we went on our walk, it turned out really pretty don't you think? I might have to enlist his help with my hair more often.
Hello, happy Friday. Anyone going to watch the Olympic opening ceremony tonight? I wont lie I'm rather looking forward to it. I'm a sucker for fireworks and big dances and shit. I'll be watching it with a couple friends as we're having a girly night with popcorn as one of my friends is jetting off on Monday even though she only just got back from backpacking around Europe for a month. Crazy.
I met up with
Ross in town on Sunday and wasn't it glorious? We bought some snacks and
sat in the square where we spent the majority of the afternoon taking
pictures of ourselves blowing bubbles with some 17p bubble gum. Long
live Home Bargains!
Gosh don't I look short stood on those glorious steps. I'm utterly dwarfed by the massive gates behind me. But hey they say good things come in small packages. I'm sporting my new shorts that I got from Topshop when I finally spent a voucher that I got for my birthday. I very rarely buy anything from Topshop as I just think it's so overpriced for what it is so I was pretty indecisive about what to spend my voucher on. I happened to pop in when there was a sale on and found these pretty shorts in my size for only 15 quid so I snapped them up before anyone else did.
Top: Primark
Shorts: Topshop
Waistcoat: So God Damn Old
Shoes: Converse
Bag: Topman
I'll admit the colours in this outfit are far more wintery than you'd expect in the recent weather we've been having, but I'm just not really a summery person. The majority of my wardrobe consists of blacks and blues and purples. And jumpers, a hell of a lot of jumpers. Considering my wintery wardrobe I reckon I've coped alright in these sporadic summer spells that have graced the UK this year.
*Ross said this lady was dressed better than me*
Here's a close up of my bum that Ross thought would be funny to take, though you can see the detail of the floral pattern so I included it anyway. Boys eh?
Anyway, I'm off to feed the boyfriend and my brother before they start turning ugly. I'm thinking a chilli con carne might go down well.
Here's a bit of Muse to warm you up for the Olympics:
